Shannon Smith
Shannon has been working with people for over ten years to reach their personal nutrition-related goals. She supports her clients with a gentle, non-judgmental weight-neutral approach. Working collaboratively, using motivational interviewing techniques, she empowers her clients to find success with developing healthy lifelong habits. Although her approach to nutrition is rooted in science, she understands that turning nutritious foods into delicious meals is an art.
Shannon is a Registered Dietitian with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia, who is a big proponent of supporting people’s nutrition needs with real food. After graduating with honours from UBC’s Food, Nutrition and Health Program, Shannon worked in the natural grocery setting for a number of years before starting her own practice.
Part of her role as a dietitian in the grocery industry involved visiting local farmers and food producers. This work gave Shannon a deeper understanding of our complex food system and the know-how to help individual clients navigate their way through it all.
Shannon's experience in clinic and retail settings have armed her with skills from teaching groups, individuals, and families to integrate simple cooking techniques to fit whole nourishing foods into their busy routines.
Shannon’s passion lies in assisting clients with digestive issues. She has completed low FODMAP diet training for Irritable Bowel Syndrome through Monash University, and is skilled at working with clients to identify and eliminate digestive irritants from their diets.
